The Swedish Back, Shoulder and Neck Massage

This focused Swedish massage targets the back, shoulders and neck – the areas where most of us hold stress from work, driving and daily life. Using flowing, rhythmic strokes and adjustable pressure, it helps loosen tight muscles, improve circulation and leave you feeling both relaxed and refreshed.

Gentle, Effective Relief for Aching Muscles

Swedish massage is one of the most widely used massage styles. It combines:

  • Long, sweeping strokes

  • Kneading and rolling of the muscles

  • Gentle friction and circular movements

At Doyle Skin, the Swedish Back, Shoulder & Neck Massage is tailored to you. Pressure can be kept light and relaxing, or a little firmer over tense, knotty areas – always within your comfort level.

Key benefits:

  • Reduces stiffness in the back, shoulders and neck
  • Eases the feeling of “knots” from desk work and stress
  • Encourages deep relaxation and a calmer nervous system
  • Supports circulation and a sense of general wellbeing
  • A lovely reset if you find it hard to unwind or sleep

What to Expect During Your Massage

We begin with a brief chat about any problem areas, your general health and how you’d like the massage to feel – deeply relaxing, more focused on tension relief, or a combination of both.

You’ll be invited to lie on the treatment couch. The upper body will be undressed to your comfort level and you’ll be covered with fresh towels, with only the area being worked on exposed. Your modesty is always respected.

A nourishing oil or lotion is applied and broad, flowing strokes are used to warm the muscles across the back, shoulders and neck.

Kneading, circular movements and gentle pressure are used to work into tight spots and ease “knots”. Pressure is always adapted to you – simply say if you’d like it lighter or firmer.

The massage ends with slower, calming strokes to help your nervous system settle. You’ll be given a moment to come round gradually before sitting up and getting dressed.

How You May Feel Afterwards

Most clients leave feeling:

  • Looser and more comfortable through the upper body

  • Noticeably calmer and less “wound up”

  • Pleasantly relaxed yet lightly energised

You might feel slightly tender in very tight areas for a short time, similar to how you can feel after gentle exercise – this usually settles quickly.

How often should I come?

  • As a one-off treat when tension builds up

  • Every 3–4 weeks as part of regular self-care

  • More frequently for a short period if you’re     working through a particular issue, agreed in advance with your therapist

Frequently Asked Questions

It shouldn’t be. You might feel firm pressure on tight areas, but it should always remain comfortable. The pressure is completely adjustable – just let us know if you’d like lighter or firmer work.

Most clients remove clothing from the upper body, keeping on their lower garments. You’ll be covered with towels at all times, and your modesty will be respected throughout.

If you have a temperature, infection or feel run down, it’s usually best to reschedule. Just get in touch and we’ll help you rearrange.

Yes – many clients enjoy a Swedish back, shoulder and neck massage before or after a facial to create a longer relaxation session. This can be discussed at booking.

You should feel some improvement after one session, but long-standing tension often needs regular treatments and, in some cases, small lifestyle changes (such as stretches or posture support) to maintain results.
