The Hot Stones Back, Shoulder and Neck Massage

Hot stones massage combines traditional hands-on massage with the therapeutic warmth of smooth basalt stones. The stones are carefully heated and used:

  • As an extension of the therapist’s hands to glide over the muscles

  • And sometimes placed on key points to gently warm and soften tight areas

The heat encourages muscles to relax more quickly, allowing deeper work to be carried out without the pressure feeling too strong.

Key benefits

These treatments are particularly popular with clients who want their skin to look better without obvious volume changes or a “done” appearance.

  • Eases tightness across the back, shoulders and neck
  • Helps reduce the feeling of stiffness from everyday posture or desk work
  • Encourages deep relaxation and a sense of wellbeing
  • Supports circulation and helps the body unwind after stress
  • A lovely way to prepare for better sleep

What to Expect During Your Massage

We begin with a brief consultation to discuss any areas of concern, your general health and how you’d like to feel after the treatment – for example, more relaxed, or focused on easing a particular tight spot.

You’ll be invited to lie on the couch and will be covered with towels or a blanket, with only the area being worked on exposed. Your modesty is always respected and you can request adjustments at any time.

A nourishing oil or lotion is applied and gentle manual massage is used to warm the muscles and prepare them for the stones.

Heated stones are then introduced, gliding smoothly over the back, shoulders and neck. The warmth helps tight muscles to soften. Pressure can be adapted to your preference – from light and relaxing to slightly deeper for stubborn areas.

Particular knots or problem spots are given extra attention, either with the stones or the therapist’s hands, depending on what feels most comfortable and effective.

The treatment finishes gently to allow your nervous system to settle. You’ll be given a moment to come round slowly, plus simple aftercare advice – such as keeping well hydrated and allowing yourself a little time to rest if possible.

Is The Hot Stones Back, Shoulder & Neck Massage Right for Me?

This treatment is ideal if you:

  • Spend long hours at a desk, driving or on your feet

  • Experience general tightness or “knots” across the upper back and shoulders

  • Prefer a warm, comforting treatment that still feels effective

  • Need time out to switch off and let your mind and body relax

It may not be suitable if you are pregnant, have certain cardiovascular conditions, uncontrolled high blood pressure, very sensitive skin, recent sunburn or acute inflammation in the area. You’ll be asked about your medical history before treatment to ensure it’s safe for you.

No – the stones are gently heated to a safe, comfortable temperature and always tested before being applied. If at any point they feel too warm, just say and they’ll be adjusted immediately.

Most people undress down to their underwear for this treatment, but you can keep on as much as you feel comfortable with. You’ll be appropriately covered with towels throughout.

Hot stones are usually not recommended during pregnancy. Please mention if you are pregnant or trying to conceive so an alternative, pregnancy-safe treatment can be suggested.
